"I'm so angry I could ring her neck" Members of the jury, I am going to ask you to do one thing today. Please, put yourself in Paula Thrombold's shoes for the remaining time of this trial. Paula loved Gavin from the very start of their relationship, and the last thing she ever wanted to do was to hurt Gavin. Imagine yourself being brutally beaten by your lover and spouse, the person you love the most in the world, to put the point where you feel like they are about to kill you. That, ladies and gentlemen, was Paula's life. I ask you to vote not guilty in this trial. It is your obligation to realize that Paula Thrombold was constantly abused and acted in self defense. How can any woman feel safe today if this trial tells them that they do not have the right to protect themself.
There is only one question in this case. Did Paula shoot Mr. Wright in self defense or not? These people here will tell you the latter, but I urge you to open your eyes and realize the pain Gavin caused Paula not just on the night of the shooting, but also the pain he caused from the past two years of abuse and beatings.
Let me run you through the night of November 25, 2004. Gavin Wright, who intoxicated from drinking, and angry at Paula because she failed to get home in time to receive a delivery of a golf club, sped home from work. Do you wonder what Gavin Wright was going to do next? He went inside the house and violently attacked Paula. It got so bad that she had shoot him in order to save herself. After all this, the County Sheriff, Kelly Carter, arrived to a sobbing Paula Thrombold. Why was Paula crying? Because she loved Gavin so much. Paula did not try to hide the gun or make any stories up. Why? Because Paula Thrombold didn't nothing wrong that night. She simply protected her own life.
Here is the prosecution's side. Gavin Wright never beat Paula Thrombold once. Gavin Wright was the all-american citizen, and Paula Thrombold is just a greedy women who wanted money. These people claim that Paula lay in wait for Gavin planning to shoot the man she sold her own business away because he wanted her to, the man that she tried every day to make happy, the man she loved more than anything in the world.
So ask yourself this. Was Paula Thrombold at fault in this shooting? No, not at all. I can't stress enough that Paula has 0 % liability in this case. Paula was abused and beaten for two years. On the night of November 25 the beating reached its very maximum and went overboard. Gavin Wright, drunk and enraged, attacked Paula Thrombold with such force that Paula's only choice was to shoot Gavin Wright. If she didn't pull the trigger, we clearly would not be here today. This case would be against Gavin Wright for murdering Paula Thrombold if she didn't shoot him that night.
Exhibit 7 shows the characteristics of a batterer. And there is no argueing that Gavin fits almost all of the traits. Exhibit 8 explains why Paula didn't leave and couldn't leave Gavin Wright. Police records show that Paula had to once file a battery complaint against Gavin Wright in August of 2002.
"I'm so angry I could ring her neck"
Jury, Please find it in you to make the right choice. Gavin had it coming to himself. He constantly abused Paula for what? Loving him? I ask you to vote NOT guilty for Paula today. If you don't; what reason can women have to feel safe? If you vote guilty, you would be just as responsible as Gavin himself!
